Panel Events at Mission 17

Two panel events took place at Mission 17 in conjunction with the Depleted Selves exhibition that expanded and amplified aspects of the project as installed in the gallery. In addition to the photographs and wall mural depicting a map of the world indicating locations of DU exposure, an archive housing over 80 articles and books documented and made available to the public the wide array of information and disinformation available on the subject of depleted uranium via the internet and other publishing outlets. (These documents are being made available on-line at www.depletedselsves.com, -- this archiving is in process.)

On November 8, 2008, a panel discussion presented an overview and update on the use and effects of depleted uranium. Panelists included Dan Fahey, a veteran who has researched the use and effects of depleted uranium munitions since 1993, and Gretel Munroe, from Grassroots Actions for Peace, and a member of the Steering Committee and member of the Science Team of the International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons. Both of these panelists presented information reflecting their years of research on this topic and their commitment to transparency and reliable science. Questions from the audience testified to the scarcity of general knowledge due to the repression of information in the mainstream on this subject.
